03/28: a 1st-hand account of COVID-19 isolation and treatment in Singapore
I’m Nick and this is your daily COVID-19 update. All data from JHU CCSE. If you find this newsletter useful or uplifting, forward it to a friend.
Europe
308,454 confirmed cases ( + 34,180 from yesterday)
35,818 recovered
18857 deceased
Top affected countries
Italy surpasses China
It seems unlikely that anyone would have expected the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Italy to surpass those in China, but there you have it. The top 3 internationally now looks as follows:
USA (104,205 confirmed cases)
Italy (86,498 confirmed cases)
China (81,394 confirmed cases)
These numbers are a testament to the extend to which our current data is flawed, be it for methodological or political reasons. It is also a stark warning of what is likely yet to come.
Each day I will share something that gives me hope. Something that inspires me in these challenging times. Sometimes that will be good news on COVID-19 (there is, and will be, good news!), resources to keep us busy during quarantine, or simply something I think might bring a spark of light to your day.
This is my way of saying: “Sure, the world’s on fire - but look, there’s also this”.
First hand account of COVID-19 isolation and treatment in Singapore
Singapore is widely hailed for the way it handles the COVID-19 outbreak. The quick testing, isolation and treatment of patients is an essential part of what makes their approach so successful.
If you’d like to gain some insight into what Singapore’s process looks like from the inside, listen to the following conversation with my friend Adam, who contracted COVID-19 in the UK and spent two weeks in hospitalisation and isolation in Singapore.
I feel that Adam’s message is one of hope, one that shows that we can all get through this if we act responsibly.
Our conversation also served as a reminder of how, in times of crisis fear = bad
and nice = good.
That’s it for today! Wash your hands and, please, be kind 🥰
