Each day I will share something that gives me hope. Something that inspires me in these challenging times. Sometimes that will be good news on COVID-19 (there is, and will be, good news!), resources to keep us busy during quarantine, or simply something I think might bring a spark of light to your day.
This is my way of saying: “Sure, the world’s on fire - but look, there’s also this”.
Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook and Elon Musk step up 💪
There’s been a lot of “anti-tech” buzz going around, so I thought it would be nice to cite a few ways in which some of the bigger tech firms are making a positive contribution to managing the COVID-19 crisis!
Apple has just announced that they’ve sourced 10 million(!!!) N95 masks and will be donating them to the hardest hit regions in the USA and Europe.
Amazon has announced that they will be paying 2x hourly wages for overwork in their warehouse facilities going forward. I think this is fantastic news not only because these warehouses are essential in providing people with goods during the lockdown, but also because it will allow workers to better support their families in these trying times.
Elon Musk, who has come under criticism in the Twittersphere for keeping his factories open, has not only donated 50,000 N95 masks to LA and also bought 1255 FDA-approved approved ventilators from China in order to supply them to those in need, but just announced that Tesla's New York Gigafactory will reopen and start producing ventilators 'as soon as humanly possible'
Whether you like any of these Billionaires or hate them, you’ll have to admit that they’re stepping up and contributing meaningfully to the management of the COVID-19 crisis.
That’s it for today! Wash your hands and, please, be kind 🥰
